magazine spread 3/21

Magazine spread:
After researching various entertainment spread pages, my eyes landed on this one. I really liked how simple it was, yet it has an aesthetically pleasing look to it.

Color Theme:
To maintain a constant color theme throughout my magazine, I decided to keep using the same bright orange and yellow. I love how it also ended up mixing perfectly with the outfit of the model.

Block letters:
For important titles I used block letters to call out the reader's attention. For instance "Future Tour Dates", it's in all caps and block letters because it let's the reader know that an important event related to the artist is going to happen. I also put the quote said by the artist in block letters since it makes it more visible for the audience.

'Dope' magazine:
To remind the audience that they are reading the 'Dope' magazine, I added a small D on the top right corner similar to the 'Vibe' magazine.

magazine spread: creative process 3/8

Magazine Spread: Creative Process

I picked these pictures because I thought the model showed confidence. It helps portray women as strong influencers and it will make the audience take this magazine seriously.

For my spread, I decided to focus on two sides of Yaneli Riancho, Hip Hop producer and fashion designer.

The outfit will definitely catch the reader's eye since magazines of entertainment that focus on Hip Hop usually have loose clothing. Therefore it could raise interest in the readers.

Direct eye contact in both images, shows power and strength in women.

Facial expressions help show the two genres.

magazine final cover 3/4

I modeled my magazine after the 'Vibe' magazine. After hours of doing various research of multiple issues of the 'Vibe' magazine, I choose three covers to analyze and identify the codes and conventions so I could create my own magazine.

For my magazine, I wanted to show that women can be strong, powerful and influential. For this reason I decided to show a woman as the model for the main cover and features spread of my magazine.

It will focus on entertainment news regarding the hip-hop culture but it also has exclusive stories based on important political or cultural issues. For this reason one of the main headlines focuses on the Venezuela crisis.

The hints of bright colors like orange and yellow throughout the magazine, let the viewer know that it will contain fun or playful issues. The fact that most of the pictures used for the magazine are taken using a plain backdrop instead of having a fun and colorful background shows that the magazine will also focus on serious and sophisticated stories. The dark colors of the background take away from the playful mood of the magazine while the bright clothing of the subject allows her to stand out, adding on to the 'women are powerful' theme.

I used a san-serif font in white and black shadows, similar to graffiti. This helps portray the hip-hop theme while still following the codes and conventions of the 'Vibe' magazine.
